Who’s playing: Eats Everything, Roni Size, Julio Bashmore, Joy Orbison, Dusky, Basement Jaxx

The unique setting and huge sound systems at Motion are known throughout the globe, earning the warehouse-style club the accolade of 19th best club in the world (DJ Mag 2016). However, every October through to New Year, the old skate park steps it up a gear and calls in the world’s most exciting artists, labels and promoters for 12 weeks of  electronic greatness.

Simple ThingsSimple things festival

Who’s playing: Kano, Warpaint, Death Grips, Metronomy (DJ Set)

From the teams behind Crack Magazine, Colston Hall and Love Saves the Day, Simple Things returns in October for its fifth year to take over some of Bristol’s most renowned club spaces, as well as some brand new creative spaces. This year’s main event is followed up on 23 October with a closing performance by legendary composer, John Carpenter, who will be appearing in Colston Hall for his first ever UK Performance.

Wonderfruitwonderfruit Festival

Who’s playing: Rudimental, Matador, Young Fathers, Mad Professor

The standard model of British music festivals collaborates with Thai culture at Wonderfruit festival – a celebration of art, music and life, set in the backpacker’s heartland of South-East Asia. The festival is easily accessible from Bangkok and its location means you can enjoy a festival in the sun like it’s summer all over again.

Sneeuwbal Winter Festivalsneeuwbal festival

Who’s playing: Lineup TBA

Another festival taking advantage of the already festive nature of skiers and snowboarders after a day on the slopes. Sounds of house and techno will be heard from Utrecht’s main park, Transwijk, along with a host of winter activities, including the popular snow slide, circus tent, as well as intimate parties, and a tonne of local food and drink.

Awakenings EindhovenAwakenings eindhoven festival

Who’s playing: Scuba, Octave One, Joris Voorn

Fast becoming a mecca for techno fans, Awakenings’ take over of Eindhoven offers up some of the biggest and best DJs from the techno scene, as well as a chance to see fresh up and coming artists. The Nordic festival is known for its huge productions and incredible light shows, whilst still managing to maintain a genuine and intimate party feel.

The Winter SocialWinterSocial

The Winter Social is a festival renowned for their boutique vibe, showcasing global dance music acts in the idyllic setting of the Kent County Showground in Maidstone. Huge sound systems earlier this year could be heard pumping out the likes of B-Traits, Eats Everything and Maya Jane Coles, so the lineup for 2017’s event is much anticipated.

Rise Festivalrise festival winter december

Who’s playing: Seth Troxler, Kano, Bondax, Channel One, Midland

Rise Festival is an independent snowboard and music festival taking place on the slopes of the French Alps in December. You can get solo or group package deals including your festival ticket, lift pass and even accommodation, which could end up cheaper than your average skiing trip. There are also some enticing extras available, including snowmobiling, husky safaris and some winter style yoga and spas.

Falls FestivalFallsfest Australia

Who’s playing: London Grammar, The Avalanches, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Fat Freddie’s Drop

The Falls Music & Arts Festival is a multi-day music festival held annually in four locations across Australia: Lorne, Victoria; Marion Bay, Tasmania; Byron Bay, New South Wales; and Freemantle, Western Australia. The organisers pride themselves on choosing the most picturesque locations close the beach, and delivering ‘tunes from around the globe to your frontal lobes’ (their ryhme, not mine).

8,497 ft up, Snowbombing festival combines eclectic, world class muscial acts with the infamous Ride N Seek event, which is billed as a snowboarding competition like no other, with some of the best professional names out there. Expect additional luxuries such as enchanted forest parties, underground tennis-club-turned-super-club, luxury spas and authentic Austrian cuisine.

SEMF – Stuttgart Electronic Music FestivalSEMF

Who’s playing: Chris Liebing, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Le Shuuk

SEMF is a huge techno rave, as are most large events in Germany or the Netherlands. The event boasts flawless visual and sound production and are known for presenting a cross-section of world-renowned, underground electronic music represented across 4 floors of Berghain-esque madness.

Westfest Halloweenwestfest halloween

Who’s playing: Andy C, Hazard, DJ Hype, The Ratpack, Artful Dodger, Frisco

Once again, the 10,000 capacity Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet will host the UK’s largest indoor electronic music festival, with an eclectic mix of garage, jungle, drums and bass, house and more.

Next March, Snowboxx will be hitting the slopes for some serious apres ski in one of the most scenic resorts the French Alps has to offer. Due to the huge demand over the past few years, the capacity of the festival will be increased by almost double. Offering a larger festival village, much more music and all night igloo parties, previously housing the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Stormzy and Mike Skinner.

Bugged Out are set to hit the UK’s favourite holiday park, Butlins, for three nights of cutting edge techno, house and bass music from some of the world’s finest DJs and artists, as well as their notorious pool parties, pub quizzes and more. Music acts from last year include Skream, Paranoid London, DJ EZ and B. Traits. Who said Butlins isn’t cool?

HorizonHorizon Festival

Horizon is an underground electronic festival held on 75km of world-class pistes at the Bansko ski resort in Bulgaria. Its ecelectic lineup will include house, techno, bass, garage, groove and funk across  various venues spread over the resort. Still relatively young in the festival world, you can expect an injection of local culture and parties until the wee hours of the morning.
